FREE BMP’s for Locals in Need

Wanted: Local resident homeowners who are both unable to perform the necessary work and unable to afford the services required to comply with TRPA’s BMP retrofit requirement for their home.

Robert Morris Construction, Inc., or “RMC”, is looking for elderly locals who wish to be recipients of FREE BMP INSTALLATIONS for their single family residences. RMC will install BMP’s for one home per month during the months of July, August, and September of this 2007 summer season. To be considered for this free service, one must simply write a letter to the editor of this paper explaining the reasons why they (or the person they would like to nominate) should be considered. Midway through each month, a reader poll (?)  will determine the winner for that month’s free BMP installation. Letters written by caring individuals for others in need (neighbors, family members, etc.) are encouraged… and everyone will be considered.
Local suppliers: Alpine Metals, Tahoe Sand & Gravel, and Meeks will be donating materials for these projects (to be confirmed). RMC will perform delivery of materials, and professional installation of all required BMP’s for each property chosen… as well as plans and calculations if necessary (if you have not yet received a BMP Site Evaluation from your local conservation district).
Rob Morris: “We hope to help some local folks to comply with TRPA’s BMP requirement so that they can sleep better, and we hope to help achieve our goals for the lake’s health at the same time”. RMC has been in business as a BMP installation contractor here in South Lake Tahoe for 3 years. Rob Morris is also a Realtor with South Lake Tahoe Realtors with a construction and home inspection background. During his early years, Rob spent 8 summers fighting forest fires on Hotshot crews and working on various forestry projects for the USDA Forest Service.
With this “Free BMP” program, Rob has found another way to contribute to the local community and environmental conservation efforts. As a contributor to the South Tahoe Association of Realtors “mini-makeover” projects in recent years, an equipment sponsor for the “Sand Pit” OHV area, and a proud sponsor of the Wildland Firefighter Association: Robert Morris Construction, Inc. is now seeking your involvement in a new charitable program to help locals and the Lake itself: If you know of someone who needs BMP’s for their home and is not able to perform the work or afford the services, please respond. Or if you wish to participate as a labor volunteer for these projects, or wish to learn how to properly install BMP’s and learn to operate the tools of the BMP trade: just give RMC a call at (530) 545-2414, or go to:
www.TahoeBMP.com. You may also visit the new “BMP Showroom” located at: 2152 Ruth Ave., which has free “Do it yourself” handbooks, displays of various temporary and permanent BMP installations, BMP materials on display, and the examples of the “tools of the trade”.
